Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) is currently seeking an Embedded Systems Intern Student in the Applied Embedded Systems (AES) Division for the Summer of 2024.

AES predominantly focuses on the research, development, testing, and deployment of embedded electronic and electromechanical systems. These systems are used for electronic warfare, control, communications, avionics, entertainment, physiological monitoring, and other uses.

This Broad Range Of Research Will Provide a Solid Foundation For The Student As a Future Embedded Systems Engineer. The Student Will Work Under The Guidance Of GTRI Researchers Performing Research In One Or Multiple Of The Following Areas

Sensing and processing broad bands of the electromagnetic spectrum including Electronic Warfare ApplicationsTechnology Insertion efforts porting legacy system functionality to modern FPGA-based designsEmbedded software development for electronic warfare systemsCreating a complex electromagnetic environment used to test Aircraft Protection systemsDigital Signal ProcessingMechanical Engineering efforts supporting legacy avionics systems reverse engineering and modelingResearching and deploying processes, tooling and practices of modern software engineeringData engineering, infrastructure and automationOpen Architecture hardware standards development and prototyping efforts

The student researcher will perform one or more of the following activities:

Hardware/Firmware development

Architecture and interface development and analysis,Digital Hardware Design and DevelopmentFGPA VHDL DevelopmentMechanical engineering modeling and drawing development (2D, 3D)Technical data package development

Software Development

Design, code, and debug of embedded software for multiple applications including: aircraft protection systems, ground radar systems, commercial airliner systems, and various other military systemsDesign, build, deploy and maintain continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelinesConduct testing of Embedded, Linux, Mobile, or Windows Systems softwareDesign, implement and execute automated tests

Systems Engineering

Model-based systems engineering (MBSE)Development of system architectures, prototypes, and specificationsRequirements derivation, tracing, and management

Required Minimum Qualifications

Intern

Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Information Systems, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field3.0 or higher cumulative GPAFull-Time Intern- Must be registered for Full-time Internship Credit

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to perform research independentlyAbility to prioritize tasks while working on multiple projectsStrong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering conceptsExperience in 1 or more programming languages (Example – C#, Python)Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to a non-technical audience

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
