Controller

As the Controller, you are responsible for overseeing the construction and development accounting functions of multiple internal companies by bringing a high level of expertise and experience. This position will report to the CEO and will manage and supervise all aspects of accounting from payroll to tax compliance. Participation in all levels of operations is required, but not limited to, the following: accounts payable and receivable management, payroll and insurance management, required government fillings and financial analysis and that all functions are timely completed, and records are maintained at the highest standard. ResponsibilitiesOur Corporate Controller will work with the CEO to implement strategic initiativesManage all aspects of accounting: billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable etc.Maintain documented system of accounting policies, procedures and processesMaintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, and team and organizational budgets and actual expendituresComplying with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reportingEstablish (in coordination with CEO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on biweekly, monthly, and annual basisCreate and implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, adhering to national and local legal standards while remaining knowledgeable of proposed legislationDevelop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflowsAchieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actionsMaximize payroll efficiency through innovative process development

QualificationsBachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or a related field, preferred10+ years of experience in accountingKnowledge of or accounting experience in the construction, excavation, paving, or heavy highway industry or projected base accounting, highly preferredExperience in public accounting preferred and/or Professional certification, such as CPA (certified public accountant) or CA (chartered accountant)Previous experience as an accountant, accounting supervisor, or managerExcellent computer skills; experience in accounting software/QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel or other system knowledgeProficiency with accounting software and experience with a software system implementationExceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principlesAnalytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendationsAble to work well with senior leadership and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members
