Summary

Under the supervision and/or direction of a Registered Professional Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, performs various duties assisting in the care and treatment of patients/residents in accordance with established policies and procedures. Understands and adheres to GCMC’s Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and GCMC regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they are changed or modified.

Experience

Experience working with the elderly population preferred. Must be listed in good standing on the New York State Nurse Aide Registry as a Certified Nursing Assistant with no findings of abuse, mistreatment, neglect or misappropriation of property/funds.

Education

High School graduate or GED preferred

Essential Functions

Performs routine patient/resident care duties under the direction of the Registered nurse or LPN. Assists with direct care of the patient/resident (dressing, grooming, ambulating, toileting, transferring)Prepares and assists with meals and distributes water and other nourishments according to the needs of the patient/residentMeasures vital signs: temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure and reports them to the nurseProvides routine am/pm care and assists with routine skin careAssists with I & O’s, empties and measures patient’s drainage containers and documents I & O appropriatelyCollects specimens, labels properly, transports to proper area in a timely manner following established proceduresParticipates in shift report communicating information to oncoming staffMakes round willingly and promptly responds to call lightsParticipates in clinical learning experiences for orientees and students Assists with transportation activities related to patient/resident care. Escorts patients/residents to ancillary departmentsEscorts discharged patients/residents in a safe and efficient mannerDemonstrates knowledge and ability to safely and effectively use equipment Emergency Preparedness-Demonstrates working knowledge and understanding of emergency preparedness plans and operations.Aware of and actively participates in emergency preparedness procedures and operationsAware of and actively participates in Code Red, Blue, Yellow, Pink, Orange, Green, and Silver drills and actual events Documentation-Completely and accurately documents patient/resident care activities and response in a timely manner in accordance with facility policy.Documents on a regular, real time basis all patient/resident care activities in accordance to policyInfection Control-Provide safe and effective patient/resident care in accordance with hospital Infection Control policy and procedures. Wears appropriate PPE as warrantedFollows hand hygiene protocolFollows all isolation procedures as appropriate

The pay for this position ranges from $17.65-$27.55 per hour.
