Senior Counsel - Assistant General Counsel

Job description

We are seeking an individual who will be responsible for leading a complex docket of cases including commercial, tort, environmental, and IP matters. This will include review of pleadings and motions, responding to discovery, preparing witnesses and participating in hearings and trials, as necessary. This person will work collaboratively with Commercial, Compliance, HSE, Employment, and IP attorneys, as well as advise the business on a broad range of potential disputes and their resolutions. He or she will conduct litigation investigations including developing investigation plans, reviewing documents, conducting witness interviews, and assisting with investigation reports. As needed for litigation, they will select, retain, and partner with outside counsel. Job DescriptionUnder broad direction, this highly experienced attorney has substantial responsibility for advising the company concerning increasingly and highly complex legal issues related to business activities and risk mitigation.Acts as a company advocate and advisor with respect to litigation matters in one or more substantive areas of law.Interprets the intent of laws and judicial decisions and applies them to specific circumstances as applicable to company business.Communicates frequently with and advises internal clients of the company.May involve supervising litigation matters in multiple operating regions.Must adhere to a strict code of ethics. RequirementsA Bachelors degree is required, while a Masters degree is preferred.In the US, a Juris Doctor (JD) in law is required.Requires 10+ years experience.Must be licensed to practice law in applicable areas. Prior experience in a law firm or agency, including trial experience as first or second chairSuperior communication and drafting skills – oral and writtenPrior experience successfully operating in a fast paced and fluid environment Preferred Qualifications Prior experience within the oil and gas industryStrong college and law school record Candidates having qualifications that exceed the minimum job requirements will receive consideration for higher-level roles give (1) their experience, (2) additional job requirements, and/or (3) business needs.
