Director Research & Development

POSITON SUMMARY: We are actively seeking an accomplished and visionary Director of Research & Development to lead our dynamic team in the realm of food manufacturing, with a specific focus on co-manufacturing environments. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in R&D, particularly in the development of Fresh and Frozen food products. As a key leadership figure in our organization, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our product innovation strategy and driving the development of high-quality, flavorful, and nutritionally advanced offerings.

Provide visionary leadership to the R&D team, setting strategic goals and objectives aligned with overall business objectives. Develop and implement a comprehensive R&D strategy, focusing on Fresh and Frozen food products in a co-manufacturing environment. Emphasize a customer-centric approach, with a specific focus on co-manufacturing clients. Understand their unique needs and collaborate closely to deliver tailored solutions. Assess external market trends proactively, ensuring we deliver innovative ideas and solutions to customers before they even think of it. Oversee the end-to-end process of product development, from concept ideation to commercialization, ensuring alignment with co-manufacturing partner requirements. Lead cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution of product launches. Drive innovation by staying abreast of cutting-edge technologies, trends, and ingredients in the food industry. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and creativity within the R&D team. Establish and enforce rigorous quality assurance protocols, ensuring all products meet regulatory standards and internal quality benchmarks. Lead efforts to maintain compliance with food safety regulations. Collaborate closely with Sales, and Operations to align R&D initiatives with market demands, sales strategies, and production capabilities within the co-manufacturing environment. Ensure effective communication and coordination across departments. Manage R&D budget, resources, and timelines effectively to optimize productivity and efficiency. Mentor and develop the R&D team, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.

Qualifications

Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of experience in R&D, preferably in the manufacturing industry. At least 3 years of experience in a leadership role. In-depth knowledge of food science, ingredient functionality, and nutritional principles. Proven track record of successful product development and innovation. Exceptional project management skills, with a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects. Strong financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and forecasting. Excellent leadership and team management skills. Strong strategic thinking and decision-making abilities. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and effectively. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with other departments and integrate R&D activities into the overall business strategy.
