GENERAL SUMMARYBuyer is a specialized position in purchasing. Under general supervision from the Manager, the Buyer will demonstrate expertise in one or more advanced skilled attributes. Buyer performance has a direct impact on bottom line departmental results. Buyer is responsible for achieving corporate and individual goals. Buyer should understand the legal aspects of purchasing. Buyer should demonstrate excellent cost analysis, negotiation, and problem resolution skills. This position will also aid and support other buyers when needed and coordinate special projects as required. The Buyer will also be responsible for following up on quality improvement initiatives with suppliers as needed. Some travel will be required (<10%).

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIESSkilled in technical areas of cost analysis, program management, power negotiations supply chain management, problem resolution and / or commodity expertise.

Must manage departmental objectives without micro supervision from management.

Creates detailed and comprehensive reporting for top management decisions utilizing Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Conducts benchmarking and scans the market for potential opportunities to reduce costs.

Oversees purchased parts’ sourcing on new models and tracks the costs through development to start of production (SOP). Interfaces with the global team and follows through on homework with the production buyers.

Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all levels of management.

Coordinates with other areas of management and globally within the Purchasing function.

Must maintain a consistent track record of successfully achieving company objectives.

Assist with the training of others within the department.

Must follow all company requirements in regards to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONSThis work is performed in a general office environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEThe incumbent must:Have a high school diploma or GED.If non-degreed, must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a related field.

Have an associate degree in a related discipline and minimum of three (3) years of experience in a related field.

  • or -

Have a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in a related discipline and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a related field. Trained in one or more of the specified developmental areas: negotiation, contract writing, cost analysis, advanced software, legal, leadership development, etc.

Certification may be required in some areas.

Have experience working with integrated computer programs and/or applications.

Have strong communication (written and oral), administrative and organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects and programs.

Be able to pass all background checks and pre-employment tests, including any required drug test.

Be able to maintain the confidentiality of any information s/he encounters.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREDIntermediate to advanced experience (beyond basic data entry) working with computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other presentation applications and/or software. Demonstrated experience within Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
