📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
We are working with a Southern California plaintiffs’ law firm seeking an ambitious associate attorney with two to five (2 to 5) years of experience. The firm is well respected in the mass torts and class action space and is regularly selected for national leadership roles. The firm’s open position offers work on meaningful cases under the supervision of exceptional trial attorneys and immediate opportunities for court room experience. It is supported by a full staff of paralegals and a legal secretary. The office is located near John Wayne airport; so, there is ample parking. Fun activities are part of the firm culture. Office attire is business casual. Salary is $120,000-$180,000 (depending upon experience). The compensation package also includes a merit bases year-end bonus, medical benefits completely paid by the firm, and a 401(k) plan with an employer contribution.
Successful candidates will ordinarily have a JD from one of the top 100 ranked law schools, though exceptional candidates, particularly those with outstanding practice experience will be well received, regardless of law school. Writing skills are critically important; so, a writing sample will be required of all candidates, in addition to a resume.
Job ResponsibilitiesPlan case development by studying case information and conferring with other attorneys.Research law, utilizing precedent and reasoning.Persuasively write motions, briefs, appeals, and other litigation documents.Manage cases by monitoring schedules, expediting requirements, and obtaining and forwarding information.Help clients by initiating and maintaining contact, preparing them to answer discovery, and keeping them informed of case status.Support attorneys at trial and hearings by organizing evidence and exhibits, taking notes, scheduling witnesses, and engaging in dialogue and discussions.Consistently exhibit strong writing and legal analysis skills.Appear in court, attend depositions, and draft pleadings and discovery.Present plaintiffs for deposition.Conduct and defend fact witness depositions.Issue and answer discovery.Maintain knowledge of local, state, and federal statutes and applicable laws.
Civil Litigation Attorney QualificationsBachelor’s degree with a law degree (such as an LLM, JSD, or J.D. degree) from an accredited law schoolAt least two (2) years of litigation experience, preferably with at least one year in a plaintiffs’ firmEnthusiastic acceptance of firm mission to represent victims of corporate misbehavior or indifferenceMember of the California State Bar in good standingPersuasive writing skills and verbal communication skills (crucial), along with great time management and interpersonal skills
