Huhtamaki, Inc. is a global manufacturer of food packaging including molded fiber articles, paper board food containers, and plastic tableware. This co-op position is at the Waterville, ME plant where molded fiber plates, beverage carriers, and school lunch trays are produced. The Waterville plant is the largest mill producing Chinet® paper plates in the U.S.

The successful candidate will be involved in various operational systems within the mill, focusing primarily on product quality maintenance and development, as well as assistance in maintaining practices that lead to successful Third-Party Auditing results for Waterville. This position currently reports to Adam Stearns, Manager of Quality.

Typical projects that may be worked on but not limited to

Factors with process and raw materials that impact overall product quality in both SF and RF production areas. Regular monitoring of raw data provided by operators into the local HAQ quality system Analysis of Raw Material quality, developing character curves for various fiber raw materials Analysis and development of cooling rate curves for product prior to shipment Participation through data collection and analysis on Continuous Improvement teams Participation in design of experiment trials when conducted Collection of data through testing of consistency, dirt, freeness, ash, starch, etc. when needed Conducting regular internal audits in preparation for Third-Party formal audits Product Testing protocol and quality monitoring work and development Assisting in ongoing development of Quality testing and the HAQ quality system for the Waterville facility. Developing spreadsheet models for various systems and processes within the mill as necessary Analysis of and reporting about variation in product quality characteristics between machines, using HAQ data. Participation on Kaizen teams for process improvement, TPM, or 5S projects as well to support WCO (World Class Organization) work for the facility. Assisting in any Third-Party audits taking place during the term.
