Senior Research Chemist

The Senior Research Chemist will be responsible for assisting in the design, preparation, and characterization of digestion-resistant carbohydrates/oligosaccharides as food/beverage ingredients.

Core Responsibilities

Apply chemistry, biochemistry, and understanding of digestion-resistant carbohydrates (such as dietary fiber) in the commercialization of new ingredients.Design & Conduct reactions (chemical and/or enzymatic)/sample preparation (extraction, fractionation, clean-up, evaporation, drying, etc.) and characterization protocols (carbohydrate composition, structure analysis, fiber test), as well as work with Analytical Science subject matter experts for specialized analyses.Support new ingredient development process. Collaborate with Process Technology, Application and Sensory team members to assess product compositions for commercial suitability.Work in a safe manner in all aspects of the work environment such as laboratory and office settings.Record and document all stages of R&D work, operate within Knowledge Management and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).Prepare reports and presentations

Qualified Candidates Will Have

MS/BS degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field with 3 to 5+ years’ experience in with applied knowledge in synthetic chemistry/enzyme conversion, and/or ingredient/carbohydrate polymer processing techniques.Preferred experience with ingredient development of dietary fibers. Preferred experience with fiber modification, characterization, fractionation, purification.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information to internal and external customers (both domestic and international) in a clear, focused, and concise mannerAbility to drive for results and work within appropriate guardrails and time/resource constraints. Ability to anticipate needs and advance projects and workflows.
