Position Summary: Interlochen Arts Academy seeks a Science Instructor able to teach high school courses in both Chemistry and Biology. The instructor will teach 5 sections of class total, including a mix of Chemistry and Biology. In addition to teaching, the instructor will be asked to serve as a co-advisor to a small group of students. There are no residential life (dorm) responsibilities with this position. This is a full-time, permanent teaching position starting August 26, 2024.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Teach a full-time load, including a mix of Chemistry and Biology coursesServe as co-advisor to a small group of students who meet weekly for 30 minutesHelp students develop content knowledge, processes, and skills related to your coursesOffer creative hands-on laboratory experiences to supplement lecture and discussionHelp with preparation of laboratory materials (making solutions, etc.) and maintenance of chemical storage (shared responsibility with other Chemistry Instructor)Develop and administer assessments and feedback for students and families to understand student growthVisit other classrooms to observe fellow instructorsHold daily office hours (during school hours)Maintain a course page online through Canvas, take attendance daily in each class, keep electronic gradebook up to date, and prepare timely and thorough grade reportsAttend department, division, and full faculty meetingsParticipate in all-school events at the beginning and end of the school year, as well as periodically throughout the semesterSeek the best use of materials, equipment and staff to maximize efficiency and effectivenessComply with ICA policies/procedures and acts as a good steward of ICA financesRespect the culture, diversity and rights of all students, their families and the communityPrioritize duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growthPerform other duties as assigned

Work Environment:Work is performed primarily in a standard office and classroom environment with extensive internal and external stakeholder contact.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: BS in Chemistry, Biology, or related field required; MA preferred

Experience: Experience teaching high school students preferred, 2-5 years of experience preferred

Equipment Familiarity: Familiarity with the following technology / software / programs preferred:Google suiteCanvas or another Learning Management SystemSoftware and hardware conducive to up-to-date teaching of Chemistry and Biology at the appropriate level for high school students

Certifications, Licenses or Special Training: Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as detailed in policy 12.HR.01 Pre-Employment and Employee Background ChecksValid driver’s license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving)
