We have an exciting opportunity for a Summer 2024 - Graphic Artist Intern to join the team with the Science & Exploration Division.

This is a temporary role not to exceed 10 weeks.

Responsibilities

The Business Development & Technology Integration (BDTI) Office exists to enable human space exploration through technology development, technology transfer and partnership formulation “for the benefit of all humankind"As NASA embarks on its next era of exploration, the BDTI Office is focused on advancing technologies and partnerships to develop new capabilities to support the NASA and Johnson Space Center missions, and we are looking for a team member to help us make this happenAssist in the creation and design of various digital and print materials, including but not limited to logos, brochures, flyers, social media graphics, and website elementsCollaborate with the BDTI teams to conceptualize and execute creative projectsContribute to brainstorming sessions and offer innovative ideas for visual communication strategiesWork on multiple projects simultaneously, managing time effectively to meet deadlinesCommunicate effectively with team members to ensure project objectives are met and maintain a cohesive visual identity across all materialsPerform other duties as required

Requisition Qualifications

Here’s what you’ll need

Currently enrolled at an accredited universityCompleted at least 45 credit hoursMinimum of 2.8 GPA.Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout compositionPortfolio showcasing creative and diverse design projects, demonstrating proficiency in both print and digital mediumsExcellent attention to detail and ability to follow design briefs and guidelinesEffective time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team settingBasic understanding of printing processes and file preparation for production

Requisition Preferences

Pursuing a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, or related field Understanding of branding concepts and ability to maintain brand consistency across various platformsPrevious internship or freelance experience in graphic design or related fieldEnthusiasm for learning and willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilitiesStrong conceptual thinking and problem-solving skillsAbility to adapt to feedback and implement changes accordinglyPassion for design and creativity, demonstrated through personal projects or extracurricular activities

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
