JMT's Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Technician IV to perform work as a lead inspector responsible for supervision of transportation construction projects in the state of North Carolina. Statewide opportunities are available.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specificationsSupervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the projectMeasure and track quantities of pay itemsGather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diariesInteract with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issuesPerform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Required Experience
Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and seven (7) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experienceActive driver’s licenseExperience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plansExperience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking and completing projects independently or with limited supervisionExperience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problemsThorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard DrawingsNCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferredExperience with local clients preferred
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
