Principal System Engineer, Mechatronics & Automation

Purpose of the position

The Principal System Engineer (PSE), Mechatronics & Automation is responsible for leading the design, verification, and validation of vehicle control systems to support our current and next generation of diesel and electrically driven Terminal Tractors (TT). This senior level engineer will demonstrate a broad understanding of systems and system-interactions across the product, and the ability to dig deeply into the technical details and fundamental physics to design a world-class controls system alongside our powertrain, pneumatics and hydraulics, cabin, and structural engineering teams.

The PSE will be involved in all phases of the development lifecycle: technology strategic planning, system architectures, design of subsystems, and sustaining of product designs.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Responsible for control system development for all product lines within the Terminal Tractor Business Line. Including but not limited to component selection, programming of electronic control modules, schematics, harnesses, interfaces with other components, etc..

Vehicle control system architecture and system topology

Verification and validation of vehicle control system functions

Manage external resources performing development

What you’ll need to succeed

Education

Undergraduate degree in Electrical, Software, Electronics, or Controls Engineering required

Graduate degree in Engineering discipline preferred

Experience

10+ years in experience preferred

Good Skills In ECAD Systems, Zuken E3 Experience Preferred

Experience with Danfoss +1 GUIDE or CoDeSys development environments preferred

Experience in C, C++ or with other IDE’s a plus

Experience with Atlassian Jira, Confluence

Competencies

Strong aptitude toward control system logic, 7-layer OSI model, software development V model

Strong understanding of vehicle electrical system topologies

Strong understanding of CAN bus, Fieldbus, Isobus, and other control protocols

Understanding of safety rated controls development (ISO 26262, ISO 13849)

Theoretical and applied knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems related to mobile equipment preferred

Good organization skills

Good communication skills

Fluent in English both spoken and written

Good problem solving skills

Working Together With

Will be required to work closely with other TT RDE personnel, Project Managers, Sourcing & Production groups worldwide.

Other information

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally will be required

Willingness to learn mechanical design if not already experienced in it.
