Job Description

Position Overview

KIPP NYC Special Education Teachers work closely both as a team and with General Education Teachers in order to plan targeted, high-leverage intervention for their students. Our Special Education Teachers seek first to diagnose student challenges and then to design individual programs and differentiated strategies in order to meet specific needs. The team serves students with IEPs and diagnosed disabilities, as well as with students who are identified as at-risk.

Teaching a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that combines the school’s standards and the New York State standardsTeaching students in a high-quality, exciting wayUsing data to drive decisionsCommitting to constant professional and personal growth through working closely as part of a team of teachersConstantly assessing student progress, and communicating results to families and colleaguesProviding individual or small group instruction for students who need additional assistanceModeling a “whatever it takes” spirit to ensure that each student is successfulModeling the school’s values in all communications with students, families, and staff

Qualifications

Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment and a healthy measure of the character traits we value: zest, grit, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude and a sense of humor.At least two years of teaching experience strongly preferredNew York State teacher certification in the appropriate content areaBachelor’s degree requiredA passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school cultureA strong desire to become a better teacher by joining the KIPP NYC team and familyDemonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of students within our KIPP NYC communities

Compensation and Benefits

KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $69,440 - $142,270 per year. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role, NYS initial or professional certification, and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP NYC will evaluate a candidate’s years of experience, certification, and longevity at point of hire to determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale.
