Position Overview

The Senior Linux/Unix System Engineer will assist the Government Customer with the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and improvements of the Linux/Unix systems and ensuring maximum availability, performance, and security. The Senior Linux/Unix System Engineer will assist the Government Customer and be the subject matter expert with event, incident, change, problem, and patch management.

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Assist the Government Customer with the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and improvements of the Linux/Unix systems and ensuring maximum availability, performance, and security.Assist the Government Customer with the design, implementation, and administration of Linux (Red Hat) in virtualized environments (AWS).Assist with the planning and application of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) on remote hosts to ensure security compliance. Assist the Government Customer with administration activities to deliver high availability for all server resources within the AWS cloud environment while ensuring confidentiality and integrity of the environment. Assist with monitoring the health, performance, and operational trends to proactively identify issues before they become incidents. Assist with providing support for incidents, service requests, and problems through their full life cycle.Assist other team members in other specialties as needed to accomplish the overall mission.

Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must be a US Citizen and hold a current DoD Secret Clearance.7-9 years of related experience.Experience with Linux/Unix platformsExperience with AWS cloud technology environmentsFamiliarity with AWS EC2, ALB, ELB, VPCs, security groupsKnowledge of security best practices in server configuration, tool development, and access controls.Strong user management skills through the command line and an understanding of Linux/AD authenticationKnowledge and understanding of the management and configuration of SELinuxAbility to interpret and utilize scripting (e.g. Python, Bash, Perl, etc) to automate and streamline system administration Strong analytical and problem-solving skills – including the ability to develop solutions in new and creative ways.Strong written and verbal communication skills.DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification is required (at least one of the following- CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, CND, SSCP and CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent).Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is highly desired

Working Environment & Conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
