Company DescriptionThe Lansing Board of Water & Light is a municipally owned public utility that provides safe, reliable and affordable utility products and services to around 100,000 electric and 58,000 water customers throughout the greater Lansing area.

Our roots go back to 1885, when Lansing citizens approved building a water system. Electricity was added to our list of utility services in 1892, and steam heat in 1919. Chilled water was added in 2001.

The BWL is governed by a Board of Commissioners made up of eight local citizens who are appointed by the Lansing mayor and approved by city council. The board expanded in 2014 to include three non-voting members representing areas of our service territory outside the City of Lansing.

The BWL owns 2,000 miles of overhead and underground power lines and more than 800 miles of water mains, providing 2.7 million megawatt hours and 7 billion gallons of water to customers annually.

Role DescriptionWe are seeking a full-time Reliability Engineer, IV to join our team in Lansing, MI. As a Reliability Engineer, you will play a key role in identifying and assessing potential risks to our utility systems and developing strategies to enhance the reliability and performance of our infrastructure. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include analyzing data, conducting risk assessments, developing and implementing maintenance plans, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in reliability and efficiency. This is an on-site role, and you will be expected to work regular business hours.

QualificationsBachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.This position typically requires seven years of engineering experience, preferably in a utility organization (will consider depth and breadth of experience).Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.Reliability Engineering Certification (REC) preferred, or equivalent experience.Experience with Minitab or other data analysis tools.Experience with Microsoft Office applications (including VIZIO and MS Project).Strong oral and written communication skills.Strong knowledge of reliability engineering principles, methodologies, and industry best practices.Experience in performing risk assessments and root cause analysis.Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software.Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
