Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Food Coordinator must have a Valid Food Handlers Certification and maintain this through employment. Responsible for purchasing of food and kitchen equipment for Lark Inn Shelter. Completing weekly kitchen inventory according to weekly menu. Prepare weekly menus and update daily as needed and keep accurate records for the Fiscal Year. Responsible for posting daily menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner and documenting food served, in addition to completing food temperature logs. Responsible for completing daily sanitation procedures and following all Department of Public Health and OSHA guidelines. Prepare daily nutritious breakfasts, lunches and dinners at Lark Inn Shelter as needed. Ensure compliance with all licensing, health department and other applicable regulations regarding food and kitchen in accordance with DPH. Responsible for adhering strictly to program food and equipment budgets Responsible for meal preparation daily and ensuing documented communication is posted, shared and sent to the team for weekend meal service accordingly, including recipes, list of menu items, placement of inventory and any details pertaining to meal services outside of regular meal services provided by food coordinator. Responsible for preparing and serving meals and clean up.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide trainings to program staff on safe food handling, menu planning, nutrition, etc.Hold regular cooking groups for youthEnsure the maintenance of a safe and clean physical kitchen environmentResponsible for supporting program services within the milieu. For example, crisis intervention or helping to maintain the safety of the programResponsible for contributing towards the care and welfare of staff and to the clients we serveOther duties as assigned

PHYSICAL & LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook) Knowledge of basic principles of quantity food preparationAbility to follow established standardized recipes and knowledge of general kitchen conductSome knowledge of therapeutic meals desirableAbility to follow directions and with good planning skillsBi-lingual in English-Spanish preferredRequires ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver, and reposition 25 lbs.Ability to reach, bend and walk

EDUCATION

B.A degree in culinary or nutrition studies preferred but not required

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

Valid CA Food Handlers Managers Training Certification Required Demonstrated ability to plan, prepare, and coordinate meals for large groups of peopleExperience managing multiple budgetsStrong computer skills including Microsoft Word and ExcelAbility to work independently and have excellent time managementMust also have ability to work with high-risk youth and with diverse staff, clients, and volunteers.Experience working with youth is highly desired, especially at-risk, homeless or runaway youth.Valid CA driver’s license and acceptance onto Larkin Street agency insuranceAbility to pass background check for state licensed programsFinger manipulationAbility to comprehend complex materialsAbility to speak and write English clearly and accurately
