Position Overview

The primary responsibility of the Applied Research Scientist - AI is to deliver business insights and friction-free guest experiences through the development of AI algorithms and their integration with various Integrated Resort (IR) systems. The Applied Research Scientist will enhance operational efficiencies and guest satisfactions, working collaboratively with teams across Hotel Operations, IT, Food and Beverage, Casino and other stakeholders.

All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and Las Vegas Sands Corp.’s policies, practices, and procedures. All Las Vegas Sands Corp. Team Members are expected to conduct and carry themselves in a professional manner at all times. Team Members are required to observe the Company’s standards, work requirements and rules of conduct.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Lead the development and implementation of advanced machine learning models and AI solutions to solve complex problems in areas including guest experience enhancement, operational efficiency, and business decision-making.Conduct in-depth research and innovation in AI subfields such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision (CV), and Large Language Models (LLM) to stay ahead of industry trends and apply cutting-edge techniques within our operations.Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across Hotel Operations, IT, Food and Beverage, Casino, Cyber Security, Meetings and Conventions, and Legal to identify opportunities for AI integration that aligns with strategic business goals.Design and execute rigorous experiments and prototype applications to validate hypotheses and the effectiveness of AI models, ensuring robustness and scalability in real-world settings.Develop and maintain scalable, automated AI systems and frameworks that streamline data processing, model development, and deployment processes, adhering to best practices in software engineering and AI ethics.Analyze large datasets to uncover insights, trends, and patterns that inform model development and business strategies, presenting findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear and impactful manner.Foster innovation by staying informed on the latest AI research, tools, and technologies, applying this knowledge to drive continuous improvement in AI applications within the organization.Serve as an AI subject matter expert within the company, providing guidance and mentorship to junior team members and advocating for AI-driven approaches to problem-solving across departments.Perform job duties in a safe manner.Attend work as scheduled on a consistent and regular basis.Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience in building and applying machine learning models to large and complex datasets with a proven track record of solving complex business problems.Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, emphasizing AI and Machine Learning applications.Master’s Degree or equivalent experience/certifications in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, with a focus on AI and Machine Learning applications preferred.Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R, Java, or C++, with hands-on experience in AI development tools and frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or OpenCV.Demonstrated ability to define complex problems, models, and constraints from informal business requirements, adept at navigating ambiguity, and aligning competing objectives.Innate curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning and applying new technologies and methodologies to tackle business challenges.Proven experience working directly with business owners across departments, such as Hotel Operations, IT, Food and Beverage, Casino, Cyber Security, Meetings and Conventions, and Legal, understanding their needs and delivering AI-driven solutions that meet their business objectives.Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting complex data and AI concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.Self-motivated, capable of managing projects with ambiguous requirements, showing leadership and initiative from start to finish.Adaptable to a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, with a focus on enhancing guest experiences through the strategic application of AI technologies.Specialization in AI, Machine Learning, or a specific AI subfield such as Natural Language Processing or Computer Vision, through advanced studies or professional experience preferred.Demonstrated leadership in developing innovative AI models and algorithms, capable of guiding projects from concept through implementation and evaluation preferred.Deep knowledge in a specific AI subfield like NLP or CV, applied to improve operational efficiencies and enhance guest satisfaction preferred.Familiarity with software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations preferred.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and interact appropriately with management, other Team Members and outside contacts of different backgrounds and levels of experience. At least 21 years of age.Proof of authorization to work in the United States.
