Regulatory Counsel, Automotive Environmental

Legal.io is working with a leading automotive company who is seeking to engage an experienced regulatory counsel to assist its legal team on a fully remote, full-time (40 hours per week) basis for an initial 6-month term.

Role Responsibilities

The Regulatory Attorney will help ensure compliance with federal and state air quality and fuel economy requirements concerning vehicles, engines, and other mobile sources. They will also ensure compliance with internal Company guidelines, and the continuous improvement of those guidelines. The Regulatory Attorney will engage in fact finding, writing, and legal judgment on technical subject matter. They will attend a regular cadence of internal company meetings to support the company’s informed decision-making and prompt compliance efforts.

Client Counseling –The Regulatory Attorney works closely with the Environmental Problem Review Committee, Office of General Counsel leadership, Company Customer Service Division, Product Development teams, outside counsel and others to provide counseling, written work product, and direct support on the following and other issues as they related to vehicle environmental regulatory issues:

emissions compliance recalls and other field service actions. new vehicle certification and homologationin-use vehicle testinggovernment reporting dealer and customer communicationsemissions-related manufacturer warrantiesgovernment inquiriesapplicability determinations, including for new products including electric vehicles.compliance best practices

Co-counseling other teams on marketing claims, litigation, class action, and other matters where those matters intersect with vehicle environmental regulatory issues.

Fact finding and documentation to ensure compliance and responses to inquiries.

Drafting materials, ranging from original legal memoranda to editing government reports, dealer and customer communications, internal company presentations, and more.

Subject Matter Expertise – The Regulatory Attorney will ensure close familiarity with applicable statutes, regulations, and other governing law. They will pro-actively develop and maintain a network of colleagues within the Company and navigate within the company with independence and in service of the Company’s commitment to compliance.

Experience

Knowledge of applicable laws including Title II of the Clean Air Act and California Health and Safety Code High level of analytical, project management, and organizational skills Proficient in MS Office products, in Adobe Acrobat, and in learning new information technology applications 5+ years of experience with focus on regulatory compliance JD and an active membership and good standing with Bar of resident state and/or the District of Columbia
