What You Will Do

The Security Protection Program Operations Group (SEC-PPO) is seeking a candidate to work and grow as a member of the Classified Matter Protection and Control (CMPC) team, supporting customer organizations throughout the laboratory and performing a full range of duties including: Conducting Classified Matter Protection and Control (CMPC), approving classified shredders for use according to the National Security Agency Central Security Service (NSA/CSS) evaluated products list, instruct monthly CMPC Live for Custodians Course live, and manage the safe program, and update training materials as necessary. Conduct CMPC self-assessments in person and other ancillary programs. Assist in audits and surveys when appropriate.

This position will be filled at either the Security Specialist 2 or the Security Specialist 3, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Security Specialist 2 - $76,900 - $ 122,200

Security Specialist 2 receives general instructions on new assignments from the security manager. May provide functional and operational coordination to security specialist 1 and 2.

Security Specialist 3 - $92,300 -$ 151,000

Security Specialist 3 receives minimal functional and operational direction from the security manager. May provide functional and operational coordination to other security specialists.

Demonstrated knowledge of the lab's security and safeguards policies, practices and procedures. This person should have customer service skills with the ability to make decisions and interact professionally with all employees.

Interaction and Collaboration

Demonstrated customer service skills with the ability to make decisions and interact professionally with all employees and other professionals. This person will likely work under limited direction after receiving general instruction on assignments. Lastly, the person must be able to work effectively and efficiently with constant interruptions and changing priorities.

Education/Experience Security Specialist 2: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the job.

Education/Experience Security Specialist 3: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the job.

Training/Certifications: Basic Instructor Training Certification and or LANL TSQP equivalent.

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated training and proficiency in CMPCBasic Instructor Training Certification and or LANL Instructor Certification. Extensive experience conducting security and safeguards self-assessments, audits, inspections, causal analysis, and corrective actions. Extensive experience participating in audits and surveysAbility to prioritize work and multi-taskWorking knowledge of Lab-wide administrative systems (Oracle, Time and Labor, Concur, LANL Shred) and computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.). DOE Q Clearance or the ability to retain.

Work Environment

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
