Job Summary

In this role, you will determine eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medical Assistance, and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) for new applications. Responsibilities also include conducting interviews with applicants, requesting appropriate documentation, and applying applicable federal and state policy. In addition, you will maintain a caseload of open SNAP, Medical Assistance and TANF cases and regularly evaluate ongoing eligibility. You will also act timely on reported changes and complete thorough case documentation.

The Ideal Candidate Should Have The Following

Knowledge of automated systems related to program area and job role. Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and practices of family, children, and adult public assistance programs. Skill in conducting interviews to gather pertinent information related to the determination of eligibility for public assistance programs. Knowledge of casework theory and practice. Skill in providing appropriate and effective case management for those applying for or receiving public assistance programs. Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with clients, co-workers, staff, other professionals, officials, and the public. Ability to understand, interpret and apply policy appropriately in determining eligibility. Ability to apply policies and procedures. Ability to manage sensitive and confidential situation in a professional and discrete manner

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree; three (3) years of directly related experience in a customer service or social/human services setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

Bilingual in English and Spanish Public Benefits policy knowledge and experience processing SNAP, Medical Assistance, and TANF applications and renewals.

These positions may be located at our Leesburg or Sterling office and may be assigned and required to work at an alternate work site(s) to carry out duties that support the needs of the County.
