Controller

Marcum Search is assisting our rapidly growing, leading real estate development, and building client in their search for a Controller.

The Controller will be responsible for managing all finance and accounting operations, including the review of journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and statutory reporting. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and capable of managing complex financial matters. They will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will work closely with senior leadership to help make informed economic decisions about the company's future. This role is in-office, and has 1 direct report (staff accountant). ResponsibilitiesOversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets, and actual expenditures.Coordinate all audit activity and manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.Coordinate and prepare financial statements for internal leadership and outside advisors.Prepare job costing reports for progress meetings to ensure construction projects are monitored accurately and timely. Provide management with information vital to the decision-making process.Manage the budget process and conduct financial analysis and prepare detailed annual financial reports and forecasts.Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed.Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow.Supervise and mentor accounting staff.Oversee timely and accurate payroll processing and payroll tax compliance.Ensure timely and accurate monthly and year-end close process.Additional responsibilities as required to meet the needs of the business.

QualificationBachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance.Minimum of 7 years of accounting and finance experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.Experience in the real estate development and construction industry is highly preferred, manufacturing experience is preferred in lieu of real estate or construction. Strong understanding of GAAP, and financial reporting.Experience with accounting systems and proficiency in accounting software.Proven expertise in financial analysis, forecasting, and financial report generation.Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results.Knowledge of employee relationship building and performance management techniques.Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with other financial systems is a must.
