About McKenzie Valley Long Term Recovery Group: The McKenzie Valley Long Term Recovery Group (MVLTRG) is a local, grassroots organization established in the aftermath of the 2020 Holiday Farm Wildfire to support the recovery of individuals who lost their homes to the fire. Since its founding in May of 2021, the MVLTRG has been directly engaged in supporting fire survivors by accessing a variety of federal, state, local, and private resources to serve the community. Since their all-volunteer beginning less than three years ago, the MVLTRG has grown to five staff and has provided services and financial resources to hundreds of survivors.

As MVLTRG’s recovery work continues, our mission has also evolved to include response to subsequent natural emergencies and working with nonprofit, community, and government partners to build local resiliency in advance of future catastrophic events.

About the Position:Recovery Resource Navigation is one of the critical functions in long-term recovery. It is a time-limited process by which a skilled helper (Recovery Resource Navigator) partners with a disaster-affected individual or family (Client) to plan for and achieve realistic goals for recovery following a disaster. This comprehensive and holistic Recovery Resource Navigation approach to recovery extends beyond providing relief, providing a service or resource, or meeting urgent needs.

This position plays a unique role in the recovery of individuals and families. They serve as a client’s primary point of contact to access and coordinate services on behalf of clients. Recovery Resource Navigators assist the client with assessing and verifying complex recovery needs, and in planning and coordinating necessary services and available resources to re-establish normalcy. Recovery Resource Navigators rely on each client to play an active or lead role in his or her own recovery.

Primary Duties:Providing a wide variety of disaster recovery client services, including disaster relief, assessments, supportive services, information and referral, financial assistance, advocacy, and the development of long term disaster recovery plans. Supervises Recovery Resource Navigator, reports to Program Manager Establish a communication plan with survivors. Communication can be conducted via phone, email, in person (i.e. office, home, community agency, or other determined location that works for all parties), texting, or mail. Meet with survivors regularly, either virtually or in person. Coaches families and/or individuals by jointly developing goals, connecting with resources, that support a path to independence and self-sufficiency. Identify and discuss difficult socio-economic issues with families such as dysfunctional parenting, drug and alcohol use, medical conditions including disabilities (physical, learning, cognitive, mental and addictions), mental health concerns, criminal justice difficulties, domestic violence, child abuse/neglect, school attendance for children (truancy), child care arrangements, housing, transportation, or other issues that the family may be struggling with. Engage with providers within the community or with other support people who may be working with the individual or family. Provide disaster recovery information. Assess eligibility for both government and private programs; assist in the completion of necessary applications and or make appropriate referrals. Negotiate alternative resources available and support services needed to support families.Maintaining case files in accordance with case management systems. Entering data and reporting program statistical and outcome data. Maintains confidentiality and privacy of clients. Advocating for and empowering individuals and their families. Builds trusting relationships

Community Partnership Development and Relationships:Coordinate services and collaborate with appropriate agencies based on the identified needs of the survivor and family. Participate in meetings with local organizations working in disaster recovery; Present information on recovery case management. May work in teams to make collaborative decisions regarding case management and recovery processes. Creating, facilitating or collaborating in the development of workshops for participants.Models professionalism through all interactions at all times and promotes the agency mission.Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:This position will work a set schedule, as determined by the employee and the supervisor, not to exceed 30 hours per week. As necessary, early morning, evening and/or weekend work may be required. Routine travel to attend meetings and meet with clients can be expected. Working more than 30 hours per week requires supervisor approval.

Preferred Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field; ORA Bachelor's degree in any field and one year of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing); ORAn Associate degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science or a closely related field AND two years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing); OR Three years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing) OR Background in organizational development, organizational planning, project management, emergency preparedness planning, or principles and practices of management.

Must have a valid driver’s license, access to vehicle, and ability to obtain automobile insurance. Must have satisfactory results from criminal, civil, motor vehicle, and Dept of Labor eligibility background checks.

Individuals with bilingual language skills are encouraged to apply but is not a requirement for this position. Bilingual differential pay is contingent upon passing test(s) evaluating your proficiency in a language other than English.
