In the role of Research Scientist I you will be working in Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy.

Purpose

The Patterson lab is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to lead multiple studies related to our established research areas in heart regeneration, development, and somatic cell polyploidization. The candidate will be expected to supervise and independently perform studies to advance the goals of the Patterson Lab’s research projects, including but not limited to performing experiments, analyzing data, compiling results, writing manuscripts and contribution to grant writing, mentoring more junior scientists, and monitor quality control processes to ensure integrity of research.

Primary Functions

Design and execute complex research procedures. Develop and perform routine and complex protocols for research programs. Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects. Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring quality activities. Collaborate with principal investigators in determining study design and performing statistical analyses. Perform and develop routine and complex computational and database methods for implementation. May serve as primary statistician for area. Develop new methodologies for lab procedures. Maintain supplies, may negotiate with vendors, track purchase orders. Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate lab procedures. Mentor more junior laboratory personnel including training and development as well as daily work direction/delegation/prioritizing.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

Knowledge of cardiovascular science, mouse and/or rat models, cell and molecular biology, data management and quality record keeping

Preferred Schedule

Monday - Friday 8:00-5:00

Position Requirements

Minimum Required Education: PhD in a scientific field

Minimum Required Experience: No experience required

Preferred Education: PhD

Preferred Experience: 5 years experience in cardiovascular science with rodent models
