Intern, Accounting/Finance, Part-Time

The Opportunity

The Finance/Accounting Intern is a student enrolled in a four-year degree program at a college or University who assists in the day-to-day accounting processes and responsibilities within the Finance Department. Under the supervision of the Assistant Controller, the Intern is responsible for a variety of functions pertaining to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial support functions. While some of the essential functions of the Finance/Accounting Intern role are completely independent, the incumbent will be expected to work in a team environment. The ability to take direction, as needed, from supervisors is required.

In This Role You Will

Upload and distribute invoices in digital accounts payable system in a timely and accurate manner; Prepare basic Balance Sheet reconciliations; Assist in ensuring the control environment is operating effectively; Document and maintain thorough and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions completed using Great Plains and/or Microsoft Excel; Gather data and complete various financial analyses. Perform general clerical duties to assist accounting teams; Other duties as assigned.

The Experience You Will Bring

Enrolled Sophomore or Junior Accounting major from a four-year college or university; Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Proficient using MS Excel, Word and Outlook; Ability to create Excel spreadsheets and analysis; Ability to work mornings or afternoons for 15-25 hours per week in 4-hour blocks of time; Must be available to commit to at least a one-year internship period in Memphis, TN.

Nice To Have

Previous work experience in an office environment. Knowledge of accounting systems, preferably Microsoft Great Plains. Available to work between 8:00 and 5:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays in 4-hour blocks of time.
