Med Surg Overview

Mercy Fort Smith’s Med Surg Service Line is made up of 7 specialty units that will provide experience with patient populations with a varying range of diagnoses and care needs. Functionally, these units house and care for patients who are preparing for or recovering from medical and surgical interventions. While you will have a “home unit”, we cross-train our nurses between the various specialties to provide a strong foundational knowledge of all types of patient conditions, comorbidities, procedures, etc. Whether you are a new grad nurse looking to build a strong base before launching into your future career/educational plans or an experienced nurse who enjoys variety in their every day work, Med Surg is the place for you!

Oncology Unit Details

Patient Population: close monitoring, nursing care, holistic and compassionate care and services to patients with endocrinology diagnosis and oncology diagnoses including care of the terminally ill and hospice respite patients.This unit has various support areas such as a chapel, washer/dryer for family, sitting/family/diningCareer Advancement Opportunity: Chemotherapy Certification Nurse to Patient Ratio: 6:1# of Beds: 23UAP to patient ratio: 8:1

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program; Consideration will be given for comparable education experience and successful licensure.Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining a current LPN license within the hiring state in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all State Board of Nursing requirementsCertifications: Current Basic Life Support Certification through an American Heart Association approved program
