Position Purpose

Under direct supervision, assists in patient care delivery as delegated by the provider. Performs clerical duties, phlebotomy, simple laboratory functions, and assists in direct patient care. Performs office duties as assigned

What You Will Do

Obtains vital signs, blood pressures, heights, and weights and records information appropriately, accurately and in a timely manner.Demonstrates competency in performing phlebotomy, use of appropriate tubes for blood specimen collection, labeling, accurate identification, etc.Assists with patient treatments as delegated, i.e., specimen collection, simple dressing changes.Assists with patient exam as directed by the physician/provider.Obtains EKG tracing as directed and ordered by physician/provider.Transports patient as delegated.Initiates appropriate measures to ensure safety/well-being of patient, family, visitors and staff.Maintains cleanliness and organization of patient environment, utilizing the established room cleaning procedures and appropriate supplies.Performs clerical duties as assigned, i.e., scheduling of appointments, verification of patient demographics, assisting with the maintenance of medical records.Uses effective communication principles to coordinate care with other health care providers.Communicates and collaborates effectively with Registered Nurses and other multidisciplinary team members as well as patients, families and significant others.Actively participates in clinic meetings, committees, conferences, and in-services.Recognizes and communicates issues/occurrences utilizing established lines of authority, and assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have high school diploma or GED. Must have successfully completed a 75 hour credit (or more) Nursing Assistant Program (Certified Nurse Assistant) from an accredited school, but does not need to be active on the Iowa registry.Maintains certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support.A minimum of 1-2 years of related patient care experience preferred.Able to communicate effectively with customers and all members of the health care team.Able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.
