Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 120 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.
Position Summary
The Social Services Coordinator links residents of the building to supportive services or medical services provided within the general community.
Principal Responsibilities
Establishes relationships with agencies and service providers in the community.Refers and connects residents to service providers in the community such as case management, personal assistance, transportation, meals-on-wheels, counseling, primary healthcare, and legal advocacy.Provides education to residents on available services, application procedures, and rights.Assists the residents in developing support networks.Provides and/or coordinates training for residents on obligations of tenancy.Coordinates on-site presentations and events to provide education about and linkages to available services in the community.Additional responsibilities as required.
Competencies
Working knowledge of supportive services and other resources for senior citizens.Ability to advocate, organize, problem solve, and provide results for seniors served.Knowledge of basic office practices, procedures, and equipment.Computer literacy required, preferably Microsoft Office.Ability to prepare clear, concise reports and make appropriate recommendations within scope of responsibility.Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, residents, community service agencies, and the public.Ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple demands to accomplish tasks in accordance with established requirements.Skilled in analyzing situations in order to identify problems and offer possible solutions.Skilled in communicating with all types of people in a wide variety of situations.
Skill And Education
BA/BS required (preferably in Social Work, Gerontology, Psychology or Counseling). Relevant experience in lieu of a degree is acceptable.Minimum of two years of experience in social service delivery to elderly and/or people with disabilities.Bi-lingual Russian-English (required).
Compensation: $45,000 - $52,000 per year
