Lab Operations Specialist (Contract)

We are hiring a Lab Operations Specialist (Contract). Reporting to the Associate Director of Lab Operations, this position will contribute to maintaining and continuously improving Metagenomi’s laboratory operations. You will support our scientific team by ensuring the labs run efficiently. This role will be based in Emeryville, California.

How you’ll contribute:

Support the daily maintenance of our lab spaces, facilitating the service and maintenance of lab safety, equipment, and lab upkeepConduct twice daily lab checks, receive and organize laboratory materials, and troubleshoot equipment issues Participate in lab safety compliance initiativesMaintain chemical inventory and SDS binder up to dateManage communal lab areas by keeping them organized and tidy (cold room, open lab, TC spaces, etc.) Maintain appropriate levels of lab supplies in designated areas for scientists Maintain laboratory labware/glassware, including cleaning, washing, sterilization, and redistribution throughout all labsAssist with daily removal of lab waste materials Daily check and restock safety glasses, gloves, and lab coatsAssist with incubator maintenance (water levels, CO2 & sterilization)Clean benchtop equipment (centrifuges, water baths, & scales) Daily temperature checks of cold storage (fridges & freezers), including periodic de-ice and defrostAssist with managing lab equipment and coordinate with vendors for installation, repair, and maintenanceAssist scientists and other laboratory staff with vendor relationsIdentify and improve lab operations efficiency as well as support improvement projects Act as subject matter expert to answer scientist and researcher questions and resolve problemsAssist with shipping and receivingPerform other duties as assigned

Must haves

At least three years of biotechnology lab industry experienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent Strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to work with a variety of cross-functional departmentsExtremely organized and able to efficiently manage your time and workflow, including skillfully prioritizing both projects and day-to-day responsibilitiesAble to quickly learn and adapt to new software and laboratory equipmentHighly collaborative, team-oriented, and considerate of the needs of othersThrives in a fast-moving, results-oriented startup environmentIndependent and self-sufficient, but knows when to ask questions or seek support

This position is classified as an non-exempt hourly position under the Federal Labor Standards Act. The anticipated hourly rate for this position will be $ 34.00. Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company’s sole discretion and may vary based on location, skill level, years and depth of relevant experience, and education.
