Responsibilities Locksmiths are responsible for installing and repairing locks and electronic security devices in Grand Central Terminal THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Qualifications Install, modify, repair, remove, and troubleshoot various types of locksRe-keys locks by swapping cores to accept new keyCut keys to given specifications for new and existing lock using key cutting machinesPick locks to gain accessInstall, maintain, repair, and replace electronic security devices; ex: Magnetic Locks, Electronic Card Access systems, and ADA doorsMaintain records of locks, keys, and equipment inventory electronicallyConduct security assessment by reviewing area layout and offer recommendationsRemain up-to-date on craft and keep license currentMaintain equipment by cleaning, adjusting, and calibrating key machines, cutters, etc.Maintain clean and organized work environmentRead, understand, and follow reference manuals, instructions, and schematicsSpecify needed equipment and materialsOperate company motor vehicle to pick up materialsFollow safety policies and proceduresResponsible for on the job training and supervision of new hiresProvide professional and helpful customer serviceAbide by code of ethics and conductPerform other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of two (2) years experience as locksmith, AND Must possess NYC Dept. of Consumer Affairs Locksmith and Keymaking License KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Ability to quickly and accurately perform basic mental mathematical calculations; reading comprehension ability; interpersonal skills; customer service oriented; mechanical aptitude; familiar with electrical wiring for low voltage locks; ability to read schematics; skilled in exercising independent judgment; ability to anticipate and analyze problems and take corrective actions; ability to evaluate a situation to make decisions and work under pressure; written and verbal communication skills; ability to multi-task; ability to function effectively under changing priorities; knowledge of operating and safety rules; must be safety conscious SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess NYC Dept. of Consumer Affairs Locksmith and Keymaking LicenseMust complete Metro-North respirator training and certification within 30 days of job awardMust complete training for Confined Spaces, Right to Know, Vehicles, Lifts, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Roadway Worker Safety Must have personal tool box with locksmith tools and hand tools Rate of pay The starting rate for this position is$28.10(70% of the full rate).The annual wage progression scale is as follows:Year 1=70% > Year 2=70% > Year 3=75% > Year 4=80% > Year 5=85% > Year 6=85% > Year 7=90% > Year 8=100%.The full 100% rate of pay is$40.15. This rate has been established by the collective bargaining unit and is non-negotiable. An exception may be granted for a journeyman rate to anyone who has one of the following: Completed a four-year, bona fide sheet machinists apprenticeship program, ORHas had four (4) years of full-time practical experience in the craft and can provide proof thereof (by means of a card or certificate).For those approved for a journeyman rate, the wage progression scale is as follows: 80>80>90>90>100% of the full rate of pay. Selection Criteria Due to the competitive nature of the selection process, not all qualified candidates who meet the minimum requirements for the position are guaranteed an interview.
