The DeepSpeed team is part of Microsoft GenAI, which works on creating novel state-of-the-art AI models, related infrastructure, and customization tooling. It collaborates deeply with OpenAI and many Microsoft teams across the company, such as Azure AI Platform, Microsoft Research, and numerous products.

The DeepSpeed team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer with passion for innovations and for building high-quality systems that will make significant impact inside and outside of Microsoft. Responsibilities

Leads by example and mentors others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.Independently creates and mentors others for a clear and articulated plan for testing and assuring the quality of solutions, and defines success for outcomes of tests. Leads efforts to enhance, reuse, contribute to, and identify new software developer tools to support other programs and applications to create, debug, and maintain code across products. Leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform. Creates and applies metrics to drive the quality and stability of code, as well as appropriate coding patterns and best practices. Holds accountability for the impact of build deployments on both users and other services.Embody our culture and values.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, CUDA, or PythonOR equivalent experience. Experience with distributed systems and/or high performance computing (HPC) systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Ability to effectively communicate highly technical concepts and insights to a non-technical audience.History of opensource contributions and working with opensource communities.Experience with machine-learning (ML) and familiarity with an existing ML framework (e.g., PyTorch, TF)Experience with Linux, Docker, and Git

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
