Department Summary

The System and Mission Analysis Department is charged with identifying, developing, and applying new technologies that can address the Government's most challenging Systems Engineering problems.

This is an opportunity for a Systems Engineer who is highly motivated, innovative, and proactive. This position provides challenging opportunities to apply and expand one’s systems architecture, modeling and tradespace analysis skills. Specific areas of interest include practical application of AI, Systems of Systems, architecture modeling, modeling and analysis of complex systems, and decision support.

Responsibilities include

Use your keen understanding of systems engineering and an awareness of sponsor needs to determine areas where MITRE can have an impactDevelop and define tasks and projects that are aligned with the sponsor’s priorities and support MITRE’s enterprise initiatives. Provide strategic level advice and actionable recommendations in support of the sponsor’s mission; develop and champion mid- and long-term strategies for the sponsor.Increase awareness and collaboration by sharing the technical products, recommendations, and activities across the MITRE enterpriseEvaluating and comparing alternative architectures using qualitative and quantitative techniques; exploring large tradespacesSystem Design and development (such as software development), systems modernization, and architectureArticulating major uncertainties associated with systems architectures, defining risks and opportunities associated with the uncertaintiesIdentifying or developing metrics to measure and analyze relevant system properties, such as robustness, resiliency, interoperability, quality, robustness, and maintainabilityTranslating analysis results into recommendations for the US Government agenciesSupporting requirements management, interface management and architecture change management processes

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and 10+ years applicable experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experienceMust be a U.S. citizen with ability to possess and maintain DoD clearanceAbility to leverage systems analysis— technical and functional skillsets, maintain relationships with internal and external government representatives.Expert proficiency using Model Based System Engineering ( MBSE ) toolsProficiency in a least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java) to prototype capabilities and analyze dataInterest in complex multi-disciplinary problemsExpertise in systems and enterprise architecture, mastery of modern system engineering methodsExperience rendering objective evaluation of vendor products and approachesIngenuity in applying a set of technical skills across multiple subject matter domains such as finance, healthcare and defense

Preferred Qualifications

Preference given to qualified candidates with an active clearance.Advanced degree in related field of studyExperience with multi-disciplinary modeling and simulation (physics-level, engineering-level and/or socio-technical-level)Knowledge of methods for assessing the impacts of emerging technologies on socio-technical enterprisesTrack record of leadership in SE innovation, research, and publishingAbility to transform state-of-the art in research for application to complex SE problemsDemonstrated technical management for SE projects that require cross-disciplinary collaboration
