Position Description

This position will be responsible for managing component, supplies, and logistics to assure that daily production schedules are maintained. SAP and other resources are used to track requirements and work with the suppliers, allowing for on-time delivery of components; Thus, on-time shipping performance to the customer. The Buyer/Planner has the freedom to make decisions and job performance is critical to the day-to-day operation of the plant.

Key Responsibilities

Reports directly to the Materials Manager and is responsible for purchasing of productive and non-productive supplies from established supplier base and controlling inventory and associated costs. Work with Corporate Purchasing, maximizing SAP in supporting customers, suppliers and inter-company transfer of parts. Will analyze all purchased item requirements from MRP which defines all current and future demand. Develop relationships with suppliers and customers and be in communication with them. Once approval has been obtained he /she will prepare material requisition and order using approved suppliers regarding the specification, quantities, pricing, due dates and the shipping information. This is part of the incumbent’s daily standard work. Work directly with the Materials Manager on plant capacities, due dates, changes, and supplier requests on a daily basis, and then follow up with suppliers on issues that might arise. Assist in developing a materials strategy that maximizes customer satisfaction and meets the established inventory targets. Works with Corporate Purchasing and suppliers on supplier delivery and/or quality issues, and will advise the Materials Group of any impact on the customer delivery schedule. Responsible for inventory accuracy and works with production on a strategy to meet the customers changing demands. Also responsible for the following:Maintains purchasing records except pricing on both parts and supplier files. Compile, submit, and communicate all changes in purchasing item documentation affecting the suppliers. Disposition of non-conforming materials and obsolete materials. Complete ECR (Engineering Change Request) as required for purchased items. Actively involved with cycle counts and physical inventory.

Required Education & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Materials Management, Supply Chain, Business, or AccountingTwo (2) years of Materials Control and/or Buyer experience, working with MRPExperience with SAP is beneficialUnderstanding of TS 16949 and ISO 14001 and how it relates to the materials groupFamiliarity with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel (vlookups, pivot tables), PowerPoint, and OutlookExcellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonally and cross-functionally Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting; Team-oriented mindsetTime management skills and ability to multi-task, prioritizing accordingly
