This paid internship is located in Chicago, IL and may require in-office attendance up to 5 days per week based on the responsibilities of your role.
About the Team
Motorola’s Software Platform Security team is a group of software engineers and researchers focused on securing our Android-based smartphones. We deal with all aspects of device security, including static and dynamic code analysis, code signing, and factory provisioning. Every day we address and research cutting-edge problems in mobile security, bringing best-of-class protections to millions of users!
Description And Requirements
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Summer 2024 Intern to join our team and assist with securing our Android phones. This internship offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with our talented engineering professionals, engage in problem-solving, and gain essential experience in security and privacy through Android platform and application development.
Primary Responsibilities
Work to classify and understand the causes and mechanisms of Android security vulnerabilities and exploitsReverse-engineer and analyze existing software components to discover and fix new vulnerabilitiesDevelop and enhance vulnerability scanning tools, protections, and penetration testing techniquesResearch and measure emerging and existing threats to the mobile device ecosystemWork to develop, deploy, and document novel security and privacy system(s) for Android-based smartphones
Basic Qualifications
Pursuing BS degree in CS, CE, Cybersecurity or related fieldStrong programming skills in one or more languages like Java, Python, C, C++, or MATLABKnowledge of mobile platform security threats and mitigation strategiesFamiliarity with UNIX environments, security testing tools, and techniques
Preferred Qualifications
Pursuing MS/Ph.D. degree in CS, CE, Cybersecurity or related fieldExperience with Android application and/or platform developmentKnowledge of mobile platform security threats and mitigation strategiesFamiliarity with cryptography and application of cryptographic protocolsExcellent interest in software code security or “white hat” hackingExcellent problem-solving skills and a passion for technologyExcellent communication and collaboration abilitiesAbility to work independently and as part of a teamEagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges
