Job Description
Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing. Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.The Medical Technologist (MT) performs a wide variety of duties in the laboratory. The MT is responsible for the following: Perform Moderate and High Complexity Testing on blood and all types of body fluid specimens. Ability to work in various areas of the Laboratory (i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology, etc.) Insure accurate and reliable test results by adhering to instrument maintenance, calibration and quality control procedures. Ability to properly use Laboratory Information System (LIS) Maintains records and statistical data according to regulatory requirements Coordinates with phlebotomy and other hospital staff to ensure proper collection of patient samples Troubleshoot problems with laboratory equipment, test methods, and sample collection Trains new employees and students on laboratory methods, instruments, and policies Ability to communicate patient results and/or problems to Medical or Nursing Staff Good customer service and communication skills Ability to work under pressure of emergency situation Other duties assigned by Supervisor or Laboratory DirectorAdditional Job Description
