Job Description Summary

The MUSC Institute of Neuroscience Discovery (MIND) is an endowed center that focuses on reducing barriers to treatment of conditions such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, addiction, spinal cord injury, and other neurological disorders. MIND is hiring a Director of Education and Research with a master’s or doctorate degree in neuroscience who will oversee the educational and research directives of the program. This position will report directly to MIND’s Executive Director. In general, this includes:

Responsibility for supporting students, fellows, and other team members through scientific guidance and mentoring. Responsibility for managing day-to-day research activity as well as the overall scientific progress of the team. This may include assisting with experimental setup and design, data analysis, manuscript and/or grant writing, study coordination and regulatory compliance. Responsibility for providing regular updates to the MIND leadership team regarding education and research initiatives. Other tasks as required.

Education

MIND is hiring a Director of Education and Research with a master’s or doctorate degree in neuroscience who will oversee the educational and research directives of the program. This position will report directly to MIND’s Executive Director. In general, this includes:

Payband/Salary Range: UNIV 7: $54,974.00 - $78,343.00 - $101,712.00

Job Duties With Percentages

30%: Guiding and mentoring students on scientific techniques and knowledge. This may include introducing basic scientific concepts, instructions on scientific techniques, and practice reading and presenting scientific journal articles. 30%: Overseeing and contributing to MIND’s research portfolio, which includes individual projects within the MIND Lab as well as multi-site clinical trials through the MIND Research Consortium. This duty will also include submission of reports and other documentation supporting regulatory compliance. 20%: Providing mentorship support for learners at various academic stages, including undergraduate, graduate and professional schools. 10%: Staying abreast of educational and research trends, technologies, and methodologies. Identifying opportunities for innovation in curriculum design and delivery methods. Promoting the integration of technology to enhance the learning experience. 10%: Providing general support as MIND’s Director of Education and Research in tasks and activities that promotes the mission of the MIND program.

Education And Work Experience

Minimum qualifications include previous experience conducting biomedical research and providing scientific mentoring and guidance to students. Requires masters or doctoral degree in neuroscience or in a relevant field aligned with MIND’s directives.

Degree Of Supervision

This position will work under direct supervision of MIND’s Executive Director, which will require numerous meetings on weekly and ad hoc bases. The Director of Education and Research will primarily work in MUSC’s Clinical Sciences Building, with an expectation of attending external meetings and other Institute-related events as necessary, including conferences in other regions or countries. This position will entail managing students and research staff. The Director of Education and Research will be expected to interact with University Human Resources and other departments on an as-needed basis.
