Job Description

The Sr Mgr & Staff Scientist is at the forefront of scientific innovation, driving critical initiatives within Myriad. This role leads and influences cross-functional teams, collaborating with colleagues in R&D, Engineering, Marketing, and Operations. They play a critical role in shaping the organization’s NGS product portfolio and driving novel technology and application development in genomic research.

Location: Remote (*San Francisco Bay Area/ West Coast preferred)

Responsibility

Design, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments, as well as influence stakeholders across functional areas.Lead the development and optimization of NGS assays and workflows, with the potential to generate new IP.Apply expertise in NGS and data analysis to develop cutting-edge products and optimize existing workflows. Work with an interdisciplinary team to convert manual methods to efficient automated methods.Build a molecular development team that can broaden your scope and amplify your productivity.Evaluate emerging technologies and explore their potential to improve patients' lives by incorporating them into our clinical offerings.Participate in defining the strategy for future molecular innovation at Myriad.Communicate your results internally to key stakeholders and externally at conferences and in peer-reviewed literature.Develop new assay chemistries with the goal of minimizing cost and turnaround time while maintaining accuracy.Lead cross-disciplinary teams to design, build, validate, and launch new methods or products. Given a problem with an unknown etiology, work with one or more teams to identify possible causes and risks, test the possibilities, and make the specifications to implement any of the necessary improvements.

Qualifications

PhD in Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or similar field and/or significant independent bench experience (≥10 years of experience in molecular diagnostics, biotech, or pharma industry)Minimum 3 years of direct managerial experience required.Demonstrated ability to independently initiate new projects and bring them to a successful conclusion.Expert knowledge of genome science and molecular biology, especially with NGS library construction, laboratory experience, and operation of Illumina or PacBio instruments. Working knowledge in genomic data analysis and data processing is preferred.Demonstrated ability to collaborate and coordinate effectively with at least 1-2 functions outside of R&D (i.e. automation, software engineering, etc.).Programming experience and/or training in statistics is highly preferred.Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong desire to build extraordinary products.

Physical Requirements

Lifting Requirements – light work or exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical Requirements – stationary positioning, moving, operating, ascending/descending, communicating, and observing. Use of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential job functions.
