Director of Legal Innovation

The Oklahoma Access to Justice Foundation seeks a committed and creative professional to serve as our first Director of Legal Innovation. As a small, statewide organization focused on increasing meaningful participation in a fair and accessible civil justice system, the ATJ Foundation works collaboratively with legal services providers, courts, bar associations, law firms, law schools, and others to find creative solutions to the justice gap. The ATJ Foundation focuses primarily on three levers of change: education (of the public as well as members of the legal system), systems reform (including legislation, court rules, equitable and effective use of data), and increasing the quantity and quality of legal representation to low- and moderate-income Oklahomans. This work is guided by core organizational values of innovation, collaboration, accessibility, and empowerment.

The Director of Legal Innovation will have primary responsibility for developing public legal information and accessible court forms, supporting public interest programming with Oklahoma’s law schools, managing and expanding relationships with Oklahoma courts, and identifying opportunities to better implement technology to support access to justice in Oklahoma. Additionally, this role is an integral member of a small team, sharing responsibility for efforts including pro bono engagement, community empowerment, the annual Access to Justice Summit, and other projects. The Director will work closely with the Executive Director, Director of Legal Empowerment, and Director of Operations with shared oversight for communications, marketing, development, and administration.

This position is best suited for someone who approaches complex challenges with an attitude of creativity, autonomy, and enthusiasm. While this role is highly collaborative with the Executive Director, the Director of Legal Innovation is expected to work independently with minimal guidance.

Experience Desired: The candidate ideally will have experience as an attorney providing civil legal services to low-income individuals. Experience working with courts and/or law schools is highly preferred. Familiarity and comfort with technology is critical for success in this role. Existing relationships with a wide variety of legal stakeholders in Oklahoma is preferred, and a willingness to develop those relationships is required.

Compensation/Location: This position could be primarily located in either Tulsa or Oklahoma City, with a possibility for remote work. Some travel is required. Salary range is between $60,000 and $70,000, depending on experience.
