EHS Leader

The EHS Leader (Environmental Health and Safety) ensures employee well-being, environmental protection and regulatory safety compliance. This position develops and implements EHS programs, manages risk, conducts inspections and promotes safety through a collaborative relationship with business leaders. Core Functions: Develop and implement comprehensive environmental, health, and safety (EHS) policies and procedures across the organization to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Coordinate with human resources to investigate accidents and incidents, ensuring thorough documentation, root cause analysis, and implementation of preventive measures. Lead internal audits and inspections to identify potential EHS risks and non-compliance issues and oversee the implementation of corrective actions. Oversee the processing of incoming claims to ensure they are handled efficiently and within policy guidelines, including verification of coverage, assessment of liability, and determination of claim value. Coordinate with external adjusters, attorneys, and other professionals to investigate complex or high-value claims, ensuring thorough and impartial evaluations. Develop and implement claims handling procedures and policies to improve efficiency and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Negotiate settlements with claimants or their representatives, aiming to resolve claims fairly and minimize financial impact on the company. Design and deliver EHS training programs for employees at all levels to foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. Engage with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, community groups, and environmental organizations, to represent the company’s EHS interests and commitments. Manage the organization’s hazardous waste disposal program, ensuring proper collection, storage, and disposal methods are followed to minimize environmental impact. Lead sustainability initiatives, focusing on reducing the organization’s carbon footprint, improving energy efficiency, and promoting recycling and waste reduction efforts. With a comprehensive knowledge of current regulations and the ability to anticipate legislative changes, this role plays a critical part in maintaining the organization’s legal standing and operational integrity. The identification of potential hazards and the evaluation of associated risks are central to the EHS Leader’s responsibilities. By applying industry-specific knowledge and strategic planning, they develop mitigation plans that address these risks, ensuring employee, property, and environmental safety. Following workplace accidents and near-misses, an EHS Leader leads the effort to understand root causes and coordinates corrective actions. This involves evidence collection, witness interviews, and collaboration with teams across the organization to enhance safety measures. Strong work ethic and ability excel in a fast-paced evolving environment. Education & Experience: Minimum Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. 7 years + experience Experience managing or supervising a team for 2+ years.
