Duties

Summary

You will serve as Chief of the Exoplanets and Stellar Astrophysics Laboratory and will develop and implement a strategic vision for the Lab consistent with the goals of NASA, Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), and the Astrophysics Science Division (ASD). You will oversee Laboratory activities and supervise Lab staff while pursuing independent astrophysics research in areas related to the objectives of the Laboratory, leading to submission and publication of papers in refereed journals.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Leading or managing projects or activities that involve developing science cases, reporting on progress, managing resources and personnel, and interacting with institutional leadership and the scientific community; Serving as a scientific and technical authority and providing scientific oversight of research groups; Conducting independent scientific research in Stellar Astrophysics or related disciplines; Publishing research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals that demonstrate contributions to the advancement of the field.
