Fleet Mechanic

Position Overview

Navistar has an exciting new opportunity for a Fleet Mechanic to join our team at our Advanced Technology Center in Elmendorf, TX just outside of San Antonio. The Fleet Mechanic will help support Navistar’s Research and Development group on 1st shift.

The Fleet Mechanic will support a fleet of production-intent and development vehicles in a fleet-type as well as experimental manner. In this role, the candidate will be able to perform inspections, PMs, diagnosis and repair of class 4-8 trucks. The candidate needs to be able to follow instructions given to them by direction of different engineering teams and thus be very detail oriented. They need to be willing to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to anticipate next steps. This position requires use of many manufacturers’ specific software programs as well as internal service tools. The candidate should be able to adequately provide descriptions and reports of issues found in the field.

The Navistar Elmendorf Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is a Research and Development Facility as well as a support center for the San Antonio Manufacturing Plant that builds leading-edge commercial vehicles. The build operations department supports the R&D departments in the day-to-day operations and ensures that testing is not interrupted due to equipment failure or delays.

Responsibilities

Perform fleet type maintenance and repairs on class 4-8 trucksPerform Federal Annual Inspections of trucks and trailersPerform fabrication work occasionallyWorks from schematics, diagrams, with verbal and written instructionsSupport on location hot and cold weather testing

Minimum Requirements

Associate’s degreeAt least 3 years of experience supporting engineering activities and/or automotive or diesel mechanic experience

OR

At least 5 years of experience supporting engineering activities and/or automotive or diesel mechanic experience

Additional Requirements

Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills

Strong knowledge of diesel engine mechanics, diagnosis and repairProficient at advanced diagnosis of electrical issuesFamiliar with performing calibration updates with service tools like Cummins InSIte, NED, or other service toolsFamiliar with CAN based datalinks and reading communication bussesStrong communication skillsExperience with mig and tig weldingCDL is a plus
