North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (DAC) is seeking an energized and team-oriented Engineer II (Mechanical Engineer) for the Central Engineering section. Engineer II will provide the Design Services unit with expertise in planning, design, development of system standards, consulting, project management, commissioning and system troubleshooting of major mechanical systems including Life-Safety, HVAC, Plumbing, Gas, and Fire Protection systems for capital projects and renovations of existing facilities within the DAC system. The Engineer II works closely with other design and construction disciplines in Central Engineering, other DAC Units, other State Agencies and with outside design and construction entities. This position will assist with and prepare plans and drawings for submittal to the State Construction Office for approval under the direction of the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor.

About The Department Of Adult Correction (DAC)

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons, Correction Enterprises, the Division of Community Supervision, and the Division of Rehabilitation & Reentry.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

Thorough knowledge of mechanical engineering theory, practices, and techniquesThorough knowledge of and experience in at least ONE or MORE of the following areas: Plumbing design/evaluation, HVAC design/evaluation, Fire Protection design/evaluation, and Gas systems design/evaluation.

Management Preferences

Working knowledge of State Construction Office and DAC policies and procedures concerning design, procurement and construction of building mechanical and plumbing systems. ADA Physical Requirements will be discussed during the interview.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification

May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
