📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY: The Nevada Volunteers VISTA project aims to break the cycle of poverty by building capacity in Nevada counties where there is documented community need, access barriers, and limited utilization of federal funding with a focus on Native American Tribes, nonprofit/community organizations, and low-income counties. Serving as a community navigator you will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as: establishing positive relationships, building trust, implementing needs assessments, developing and disseminating tools and resources, and connecting communities and organizations to beneficial partnerships and AmeriCorps streams of service. Additionally you will be asked to travel around the state of Nevada to conduct outreach to the communities and organizations that align with this goal.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performance of these functions is the reason the position exists. Assigned tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions.General Community Navigator1. Conduct Outreach – Develop needs assessment tools and gain an understanding on conducting effective community outreach. Implement needs assessments while conducting outreach to Native American Tribes, nonprofit/community organizations, and low-income counties.2. Constituent Support – Collaborate with staff at Nevada Volunteers to develop a database of current and potential community partners that can later be broken down into resource sheets and distributed to Native American Tribes, nonprofit/community organizations, and low-income counties.3. Resource Development – Create resource sheets on community partners, potential funding sources, volunteer recruitment tools, volunteer retention and volunteer management materials. Develop fact sheets on Nevada Volunteers training and technical assistance sessions and AmeriCorps streams of service.4. Project Management – Develop an internal database to track and monitor project performance and progress towards achieving intended outputs and outcomes. Monitor capacity buildings services or resources received and develop a post-test survey that allows communities and organizations to self-assess if participation in the VISTA project has increased their efficiency, effectiveness, and/or program reach.SALARY AND BENEFITS:AmeriCorps provides a modest living allowance while you are serving in the VISTA program. Some reaching, bending, squatting, and stooping to access files and records is necessary. Strength and stamina to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for long periods of time. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper. Occasional lifting of files, stacks of paper or reports, references, and other materials. Some reaching for items above and below desk level. The manual dexterity and cognitive ability to operate a personal computer using word processing and databases. The ability to interact professionally, communicate effectively, and exchange information accurately with all internal and external customers. Ability to appropriately handle stress and interact with others, including supervisors, coworkers, employees, and the public. Maintain regular and consistent punctuality and attendance. Light lifting (up to 25 pounds) is occasionally required.Service Conditions: This position functions indoors in an office-type environment where most work is performed at a desk or similar workspace. This position is expected to serve an eight-hour shift from the Nevada Volunteers headquarters in Sparks, Nevada. This position is also expected to travel throughout the state to hold meetings or conduct outreach where work duties will be completed on a laptop.
