📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
New York Disaster Interfaith Services (NYDIS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit faith-based federation of faith communities, human services providers and charitable organizations who work in partnership to provide disaster readiness, response, and recovery services to New York City. NYDIS also operates an affiliate nonprofit, the NYC Emergency Shelter Network (ESN). ESN leads advocacy initiatives, coordinates, and builds the capacity of congregation-based street homeless shelter services, asylum-seeker shelters, and service centers as well as homeless mitigation initiatives. NYDIS currently has a $40M annual operating budget and 75 employees. The Development & Grants Manager (DGM) will provide oversight of all NYDIS grant development/writing as well as management and reporting related to NYDIS’ subgrants and re-granting funds. Reporting to the Executive Director and CEO, the DGM will collaborate with the Associate Executive Director and Senior Staff to manage development needs as well as grant writing and reporting. This role involves creating effective messaging, writing compelling grant proposals, and ensuring timely and accurate reports for grant-funded projects. The DGM will also play a key role in growing multi-year, unrestricted revenue and stewarding relationships with institutional funders and prospects as well as online giving by individuals that support our mission and that of the Emergency Shelter Network. Responsibilities· Collaborate with Executive Staff and Board of Directors to develop and implement a comprehensive grant development strategy to secure funding from foundations, government contracts, and other entities.· Research and identify new grant opportunities that align with NYDIS’ mission and programs.· Develop and submit grant proposals & LOIs, ensuring compliance with funder and deadlines.· Collaborate with program directors and staff to gather information and data for grant proposals and reports.· Manage relationships with existing funders, providing regular updates and reports on grant-funded projects.· Oversee the entire grant life cycle, including grant writing, reporting, and compliance.· Create and implement virtual/social media fundraising events and campaigns. · With the Associate Executive Director, lead the organization’s social enterprise initiatives, identifying opportunities for revenue generation and mission-driven impact.· With the Associate Executive Director, develop and implement business plans for social enterprise projects, including market analysis, financial projects, and sustainability plans.· Manage a portfolio of institutional funders and prospects, overseeing the team-wide grant deliverable process for institutional fundraising.· Contribute to the growth of multi-year, unrestricted revenue and steward relationships with institutional funders and prospects supporting culture change and policy initiatives. · Support prospecting and solicitation of new institutional funders and adapt written materials for individual donors and family foundations - with quick turnaround on content related to new opportunities for program growth.· Steward a portfolio of key donors giving five and six-figure grants for general operating support and/or supporting culture change and policy campaigns.· Conduct proactive research to identify new potential funders and collaborate with executive leadership and program leads to cultivate strategies for prospects.· Develop written content to support program priorities, including grant reports, proposals, organizational case statements, briefing decks, concept notes, questionnaires, and application forms.· Build positive and collaborative inter-departmental working relationships across program and executive staff.· Assist Senior Staff & Program Directors in building infrastructure for quality reporting on organizational metrics.· Represent the organization at relevant conferences, events, and networking opportunities. · Other duties as assigned. Qualifications:· Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.· 3-5 years of previous experience in nonprofit development and/or grant writing and management· Experience in grant development for social enterprises, or a related field within the nonprofit sector· Proven success in securing grants from various sources and managing the entire grant life cycle.· Strong project management and organizational skills with acute attention to detail.· Demonstrated success in creating effective messaging and polished materials for external audiences, online fundraising and social media promotion of events as well as including nonprofit grant proposals and reporting.· Developing and implementing social enterprise initiatives preferred· Proven ability to work independently and as part of a high-performing team in a fast-paced, experimental organization.· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills· Ability to build and maintain close relationships with funders, partners, and stakeholders.· Innovative entrepreneurial mindset· A sense of humor and ability to make others feel heard and seen.· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, and social media.
