ADAS Development Engineer, Sensor Abstraction

Overview

We are seeking an innovative and skilled Autonomous Driving Software Engineer to join our dynamic team working on cutting-edge sensor abstraction technologies for autonomous vehicles. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining software systems that enable seamless integration and interpretation of sensor data, paving the way for advanced autonomous driving capabilities on Nikola trucks.

Responsibilities

You will

Design and develop software modules for sensor abstraction, ensuring efficient and effective utilization of data from cameras and radarsImplement algorithms and data structures that translate raw sensor data into a unified format, providing a consistent and standardized interface for higher-level autonomous driving functionsWork closely with sensor hardware engineers to understand the characteristics and limitations of different sensors and incorporate this knowledge into the abstraction layerCollaborate with other software teams, including perception, applications, embedded integration, and controls to incorporate the sensor abstraction layer into the overall autonomous driving software stackConduct thorough testing, validation, and verification of the sensor abstraction software to ensure robustness and accuracyDocument and maintain software architecture, APIs, and technical specifications related to sensor abstractionStay abreast of the latest advancements in sensor technologies and autonomous driving algorithms, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation

Qualifications

You have

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required. A master's degree or PhD is preferredMinimum 5 years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on sensor integration, robotics, or autonomous systemsProficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, and experience with real-time operating systemsStrong understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented design, and software architectureExperience with sensor fusion algorithms, calibration techniques, and data synchronization methodsKnowledge of robotics middleware frameworks such as ROS is highly desirableFamiliarity with machine learning techniques for sensor data processing and interpretation is a plusExcellent problem-solving skills, critical thinking ability, and a passion for autonomous driving technologiesStrong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team
