Lead Engineer, EE Digital Hardware Design

Overview

Nikola’s High Speed Electronic Hardware Engineering team is on the lookout for EE Digital Hardware Design, Lead Engineer, to support the development of ECUs (Electronic Control Modules) and HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems and subsystems for prototype and production vehicles.

Responsibilities

You will

Design and develop complex automotive electronic design: analog, digital and mixed-signal circuits; BOMs, PCB DesignDefine component placement and circuit trace routing rules, oversee board layout from feasibility studies to board tape-out while meeting automotive/IPC/ASIL requirementsConsider BOM Cost and availabilityApply design expertise to define and improve Company procedures and processes, system and product specificationsIncorporate feedback and lessons learnedPerform design research and verification development, testing, and utilization of hardware, components, mechanisms, materials, thermal, EMC,/EMI, enclosure for platform utilizationDevelop plans for testing, simulation, debug, signal integrity, power, grounding and general board layout principlesHave a solid understanding of Product Life-Cycle; including concept and requirements definition, design, prototyping, verification and releaseCollaborate with Cross-Functional Teams (Chief, Program, Project, Purchasing, Quality, Software/Firmware, Controls, etc)Provide design guidance, debug, support, and similar efforts to the Hardware design engineering team as well as to other cross-functional groupsCreate Validation and Test Plans for Design and Product Validation (DV/PV)Use lab equipment to perform board bring up and debugGood understanding of IPC, ASIL and ISO26262 standardsOrganized teammate with excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal)Support Change Management and Deviation Processes, risk analysis, failure modes, and root-cause analysisSupport and develop component-level performance characterization and specificationTechnical Support with Contracted Manufactures/SuppliersParticipate in Program/Management Meetings

When required, lead a small team of 1-3 peopleManage assigned tasks, schedule, and budgetKeeping track of progress on all tasks assigned to the teamEnsuring that all tasks proceed according to schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all requirementsVerify that all assigned work has been completed accurately and on time

Qualifications

You have: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent4+ years of experience in Hardware Development Engineering (Automotive sector preferred)Experience with High-Speed Design such as: DDR, M.2, SATA, PCIe, USB 3, Gigabit Ethernet, FPD3, GMSL2, HDMI, DP, 3/12G SDI or similarExperience with PCB Circuit DesignStrong analytical mindSelf-motivated individual with a passion to succeed, a positive attitude and the ability to communicate and work well with others in a team environmentFamiliar with Office Work Environment, Jira, Confluence

Candidates must have current U.S. work authorization or be TN eligible from Mexico or Canada. This position is not eligible for CPT or OPT.
