Farm General Manager

FARM GENERAL MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: Plan, direct, or coordinate the management or operation of farms, greenhouses, aquacultural operations, nurseries, timber tracts, or other agricultural establishments. May hire, train, and supervise farm workers or contract for services to carry out the day-to-day activities of the managed operation.

Pay Range: $75,000-$125,000 (Pay information will vary depending on relevant experience for the position)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervising farm and maintenance staff, and their direct reports, as well as any employees or contractors assigned to perform work at the farm. Will need to coordinate with the Property Manager as needed on labor resources and allocation as it relates to construction crew and equipment operators.Assisting with the recruitment and training of new staff members.Ensuring all staff adheres to health and safety regulations.Analyzing existing operations, crops, livestock, staff, and financial documents and then recommending improvements via realistic short- and long-term plans.Collaborating with senior staff to prepare budgets and financial reports.Preparing plans and schedules with Head Grower for planting and harvesting, and ensuring staff understands expectations.Visiting the different divisions to inspect crops and livestock.Performing testing on soil and water or engaging with trusted partners.Ensuring seeds, fertilizers, and other farm supplies are regularly restocked with Head Grower.Scheduling repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery with Property Manager.Handling the marketing, sale, and distribution of products produced on the farm likefruits, vegetables, dairy, meats, and grains.Working with other staff to plan and execute special private events for farm tours, team meals, or events with our large network of trusted vendors and other dignitaries.Building professional networks and keeping abreast of training, developments or potential grant opportunities in agricultural science that align with our farm operations.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EDUCATION:The right attitudeBachelor’s degree in agriculture, animal science, or equivalent experience.Additional courses in business management or administration are recommended.A passion for agriculture and extensive experience in a farming-related field preferred.Budget, Inventory and Personnel Management experience are required.Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.The ability to make decisions in stressful environments.Superb communication and interpersonal skills.Willingness to work overtime as required.MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

• Five years in overseeing farming operations

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS

• The supervision of farm workers.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Farm – outdoors and inside Greenhouse and other structures. Safe environment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: · Regularly required to stand, walk, crouch, kneel, and sit for extended periods during the day.· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.· Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
