This Accounting Technician I is located in the Controller's Office of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.

The Accounting Technician I provides accurate accounts payable and disbursement processing services for General Accounting invoices, including

Processing payments and/or matching invoices to vendorsVerifying paymentsMaintaining payment filesConsulting with vendors and staff regarding accountsReconciling payment data and troubleshooting problems with payments and accounts.

Position is responsible for the payment of departmental medical services and prescription RX purchases.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits . The work schedule is Monday -Friday, 8am-5pm.

This position qualifies for teleworking on a part-time basis as part of a State Teleworking Program. Any telework will be under the conditions of the State Teleworking Program Policy, and the employer may end any teleworking arrangement at any time at the employer’s sole discretion.

About The Controller's Office

The primary purpose of the Department of Public Safety Controller’s Office is to ensure that all department financial resources and funds are received, disbursed, recorded, and accounted for in accordance with all applicable State and Federal laws and regulations, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Department policy and procedures. The Controller’s Office at the agency level has oversight responsibility of the North Carolina Accounting System (NCFS) regarding transactions which affect the financial responsibility of this department and is accountable to the office of the State Controller for the integrity of that data.

We have a mission that matters! NC DPS is comprised of 6,000 permanent positions and nearly 13,000 temporary North Carolina National Guard positions. The divisions within DPS include Alcohol Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Information Network, Emergency Management, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, State Highway Patrol, State Capitol Police, NC Office of Recovery and Resiliency, Samarcand Training Academy, and the NC National Guard. DPS also includes some Boards and Commissions: ABC Commission, Governor’s Crime Commission, Private Protective Services Commission, and Boxing & Combat Sports Commission.

The salary grade for this position is NC05. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Accounting Payable experience and/or experience processing invoices for payment.Experience using Excel.Experience using accounting software.

Management Preferences

Experience with North Carolina Financial System (NCFS) general ledger and AP modules.Experience with Purchase Order payments.Experience using Outlook.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Associate's degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution,

or

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in accounting work;

or

an equivalent combination of education and experience.
