Job Description

Serves meals – monitors meal consumption and reports to nurseChecks vital signs; blood pressure, temperature, respirations and heart rate, weight and height of resident. Instructs residents on how to obtain urine and stool specimens. Prepares collected specimens for pick-up by labeling and preparing required form(s); and pick-up lab results. Label containers used for blood and other specimens in the presence of resident. Performs venipuncture to obtain specimens for laboratory testing. Performs blood glucose testing (finger stick). Assists in vision and hearing testing. Performs simple first aid, such as dressing changes, bandaging and cleansing of wounds. Prepares resident for examination and assists medical provider during examination by providing necessary supplies/equipment. Maintains, completes, processes and files residents charts. .Prepares examining room for examination, including cleaning and sterilizing instruments and equipment Reports observation of residents to nurse caring for resident to ensure professional assessment. Refers inquiries of residents to the licensed nurse. Maintains inventory of the unit’s equipment stock and supplies on a daily basis. Works effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assists in the orientation of new employees. Assists and escorts residents on and off site activities, e.g. clinic appointments. Coordinates efforts of various clinic and facility departments in scheduling and rebooking appointments through manual and/or automated systems and enters pertinent patient information into facility data systems. Operates electrocardiograph equipment to record electrical wave tracing of the electrical currents of the heart muscle. Performs patient care duties as directed by charge nurse. Take photos of residents in upload in EMR Upload hospital records in EMR Assist with other clinical duties requested by Nursing Staff as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and Successful completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director; and Completion of a health care setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs and basic life support procedures including certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation.

Special Note

In addition to meeting the qualifications above, assignment to a long-term care facility requires a New York State Nurse’s Aide Certificate.
