Job Description

Manages clinical services in a physical therapy unit.Performs clinical supervision by observing the delivery of treatment, by reviewing treatment plans and by making recommendations to effectuate patient progress.Assigns staff in accordance with patient needs and skill level of staff.Clarifies, interprets and implements Physician’s orders and consults with Physicians to update orders and to report on the progress of patients.Orients health care professionals regarding departmental policies, procedures and practices.Evaluates staff performance and provides oral and written reports and guidance for improvement for the unit.May act as a coordinator of activities in one or more clinical specialties such as pediatrics, orthopedics, neurology or cardiopulmonary diseases. Trains staff in these fields. Conducts clinics based on advanced knowledge in the area(s) of specialization.Coordinates student program. Maintains communication with schools and oversees student supervision.Plans, develops and implements procedures which facilitate communication and cooperation among therapy units and other hospital units and departments.Implements new therapy programs; participates in the preparation of treatment protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must have a valid Physical Therapy License and current registration issued by the New York State Department of Education,

AND One Of The Following

A Baccalaureate Degree with a major in Physical Therapy accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), and two years of full-time experience administering physical therapy under professional supervision; or, A master's degree in physical therapy accredited by the APTA with a Baccalaureate Degree in an unrelated discipline, and two years of full-time experience administering physical therapy under professional supervision; or, A Baccalaureate Degree and a master's degree, both with a major in Physical Therapy accredited by the APTA, and one year of full-time experience administering physical therapy under professional supervision; or, A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to (1), (2) or (3). Education beyond the Baccalaureate Degree may be credited toward meeting the minimum requirements. However, all candidates must have either the Baccalaureate Degree or the master's degree as described above and a minimum of one year of experience as described above.
